The New Enlightenment? The Future of the University in the Knowledge Economy
This event was held on Tuesday 11 November 2008
It was attended by Vice-Chancellors, Deputy Vice-Chancellors and Registrars, Pro Vice-Chancellors, Heads of Human Resources and Knowledge Transfer and Senior Leaders from HE stakeholder organisations.
The Forum brought together a variety of speakers around the topic of a New Enlightenment for the University.
An introduction to the topic provided by The Work Foundation’s Will Hutton and Ian Brinkley centred around the concepts of this “Enlightenment”, the knowledge economy and knowledge cities. Their input was complemented by Professor Derek Longhurst (Chief Executive of fdf) , David Wolff (Director of the Community University Partnership Programme at Brighton University), Dr Ederyn Williams (Director of Warwick Ventures), Professor Jonathan Gosling (Director of the Centre for Leadership Studies at the University of Exeter) and a key note speech given by Professor Harriet Wallberg-Henriksson (President of the Karolinska Institutet in Sweden).
The speakers, along with notable input from the delegates on the day, provided valuable insights into how institutions can and have positioned themselves and develop their strategies for this new era:
