The Future of HR Programme

The current debate about the future of HR is based on two extremes – one which characterises HR as a bureaucratic overhead and the other as strategically positioned at the top table.

The Work Foundation’s Future of HR programme will move this debate to a different ground and provide a sounder underpinning of organisational choices about HR’s role, size and structure.   It will explore topics such as:

  • Who and what HR can uniquely champion.
  • The role HR plays in levels of risk aversion, professional judgement and accountability in the organisation.
  • Employee engagement where alignment of objectives and motivation cannot be taken for granted so that this tension drives innovation, diversity and positive energy.
  • Future trends in the economy, the workforce and the workplace within which HR operate.

The Work Foundation is uniquely positioned to lead this debate bringing its independence, insights from our Knowledge Economy research and underpinning philosophy of Good Work.

Building on our current HR research evidence and practical expertise we will be launching a two year research programme in the Autumn 2008 and undertaking bespoke research and consultancy projects that will be informed by, and will inform, the debate about the future of HR.
